Ideal Blinds Fabric Guide

Browse Our Broad Selection of Blinds Fabrics Online – Then Bring Us Home!

If you've ever ordered from a catalogue, you know that pictures seldom accurately represent exact colour. Your computer has the same challenges plus the addition of monitor variations and of course, your computer screen doesn't let you feel the textures of the different blinds fabrics and materials. For instance:

  • Some fabrics such as the Premium 24 vertical fabrics have a metallic sheen which may be only partially evident in our Gallery pictures.

  • Translucent blinds fabrics also vary from what you'll see pictured. Generally the actual fabric, when hung in your window, will be significantly more transparent than is indicated by our pictures.

  • For example, the Waratah range of fabrics for Vertical blinds is all translucent or transparent. However, only light coloured fabrics show transparency in our pictures. As a general rule, darker colours let less light through, but appear to be even more transparent than light colours when looking out your windows. This is particularly true for all Sunscreen fabrics.

Dark screen fabric allows better visibility through the blinds.

Our solution – We suggest you use our Gallery photos as a starting point to find ideas on colours and blinds styles. Then we offer you the unique opportunity to get the exact fabric to suit your decorating plans.

For a nominal deposit, we'll send you up to three full sets of blinds fabric samples, woods, or other blinds materials and we'll pay the postage! You'll get a true look and feel of our fabrics to find the colours that truly compliment your home. This means that you can receive up to 50 colour samples, depending upon which of the ranges you choose.

We ask just one thing: that you return your samples within three days, using the prepaid envelope we provide.

Fabrics for Rollers, Romans Blinds, and Panel Glides

Note: Some fabrics shown in our Gallery may not be suitable for all blinds types. For example a small number of fabrics listed for Rollers, Roman Blinds, and Panel Glides may not be suitable for Rollers in some applications. Please contact Ideal Blinds with your questions.  Our goal is your complete satisfaction.

Sunscreen Fabrics

Sunscreen fabrics have earned their popularity through making your indoors environmentally friendly. Although they effectively block a great deal of heat and light (including harmful UV), the "soft light" ambience they provide doesn't block your view.

The small holes between the threads in the weave of sunscreen fabrics allow light into the room as well as some level of visibility to the outside. This "light openness" makes shapes more distinguishable than non-mesh translucent fabrics.

Sunscreen blinds fabrics are available in several levels of light openness.  M-Screen with 5% openness is our most popular range of sunscreen blinds fabrics with the widest range of colours. However, E-Screen with 10% openness provides better visibility. Note, however, that dark sunscreen fabrics don't reflect the heat as well as light-coloured sunscreens. Still, a dark sunscreen may be the perfect addition to your décor and may even allow better visibility to the outside than a light-coloured blinds fabric with the same openness.

Our commitment to quality extends to the fabrics we use in the manufacture of Ideal Blinds. The best sunscreen fabrics are constructed from a fibreglass base cloth that comes from leading suppliers such as the European manufacturer, Mermet (M-screen, E-screen) and a USA company, Phifer (Shearweave). Ideal Blinds uses sunscreen blinds fabrics exclusively from these manufacturers.

Translucent Blinds Fabrics

Similar to sunscreens, translucent fabrics usually cost less and have similar or even better light diffusion properties. As light passes through translucent fabrics your blinds enhances your room with a special ambience as the fabric's colour works to create a different light tone. Some translucent fabrics allow limited visibility to the outside, yet heavily impede visibility from the outside to the inside of your room—an extra benefit that creates privacy, especially in rooms lighted at night.

A good example of a translucent blinds fabric is Illuminate, which provides a pleasant soft-light ambience and is an excellent choice for Verticals, Rollers, Roman Blinds, and Panel Glides. Sienna and Noosa are also great selections for Rollers, Roman Blinds, and Panel Glides.

Block-out Blinds Fabrics

Choose block-out blinds fabrics to prevent light entry into a room or to blanket your room with complete privacy from outside viewing. A popular choice for bedrooms, choose from two types of block-out fabrics:

  1. Of the two types of block-out fabrics, the acrylic coated/polyester base, is the least expensive and is available in either a matt or gloss finish. Find this type of block-out fabric in our Matilda or Premium range for Verticals, Rollers, and Panel Glides.
  2. Flock-back fabrics offer the best in room darkening, privacy, and appeal. Flock-back blinds fabrics have more of a natural fabric appearance (much like curtains) on the front side with backing generally in a light reflective cream colour. Flock-backed blinds fabrics are available in our Sienna, Noosa Canvass, and Palm Beach ranges.

Note: Vertical blinds, of course, never completely block out light due to the small gaps between louvres, at the sides of the vanes and the gap between the head rail and louvre.

A Final Note on Ideal Blinds Fabrics

You might think hand-cut is a sign of excellent craftsmanship. However, hand-cut leaves a serious margin for error. At Ideal Blinds, our Modra RBL automatic X-Y Table ensures that your blinds fabrics are always cut perfectly square and batten positions marked out precisely on our Laser Table.

Only laser cutting will fuse fibreglass and Ideal Blinds is the only Internet Company offering this technology. Our laser cutting technology achieves accuracy and provides a flawlessly sealed edge on Rollers, Roman Blinds, and Panel Glide Blinds fabrics. In short, you'll never need worry about fraying or "stringy-ness" on a blind from Ideal Blinds.
