 Roman Blinds
Along with the return to blinds with the more sophisticated look of fabric, we have understandably experienced a growth in demand for Roman style blinds.
Of all blinds, the Roman blind provides probably the greatest light block-out since the blind can fill the full opening (less the standard clearances). On windows with sufficient sill depth, you can mount the head rail flush to the front face of the window, providing a very neat finish when your blind is closed. The head rail fits closely to the upper reveal to more efficiently minimize the light entry over the top of the blind.
Roman blinds are divided into horizontal panels and when lifted (vertically) loops are formed by each panel behind the top one. The lifted blind is typically 20% of the full length of your blind. Systems vary. Many suppliers offer pulley and lift cords with a catch mechanism that stops the blind from falling down when the cords are released. Pockets or panel dividers are formed in a variety of ways: sewn in timber dowels, Aluminium extrusion, or timber batons that are secured to the front and back of the fabric. Pockets may be visible at the Roman blind's front, but more usually are to the back of the blind.
Ideal Blinds offers the best in head rail systems – we use a sidewinder chain to lift and lower our Roman blinds. The sidewinder chain offers several advantages. First, it lifts the panels evenly from side to side as each lift cord winds onto a spool (similar to a timber Venetian). Second, you never need to reach under the blind to make a catch mechanism engage—the chain system holds the blind to the set height. Finally, firmly held to the head rail by industrial strength Velcro, the fabric is easier to remove for cleaning. We recommend to mount our Roman blinds with the face of the fabric flush with your wall or architrave for a neater, more practical finish. Add a 90 mm “Sydney Harbour Bridge” shape Pelmet for a professional finish.
Idea Blinds offers two types of divider or pocket. We fit our standard Roman blinds with an Aluminium extrusion that is mounted to the back of the blind, providing a firm, neat finish. Alternatively, we use batons (described by some as Californian blinds) to divide up the blind. Choose from our wide assortment of colours or order a custom colour. Contact Ideal Blinds.
